MACMILLAN OPEN HOUSE
A SAFE SPACE FOR BLACK AND SOUTH ASIAN COMMUNITIES
Macmillan Open House was a two-day live experience designed to centre culture, community, and trust, creating space for honest, emotionally powerful conversations within Black and South Asian communities. TBV Productions was brought in to translate this experience into a cohesive visual narrative that could live far beyond the event itself.
Our responsibility was not simply to document, but to shape stories with intention, ensuring every moment captured reflected care, authenticity, and impact.
OUR APPROACH
STORYTELLING WAS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR PROCESS FROM THE OUTSET. BEFORE FILMING BEGAN, WE EMBEDDED OURSELVES IN THE PRODUCTION BUILD, WALKING THE SPACE AS IT CAME TOGETHER AND UNDERSTANDING HOW EACH AREA WOULD BE USED. THIS ALLOWED US TO PLAN CAMERA PLACEMENT STRATEGICALLY, ANTICIPATE KEY MOMENTS, AND ENSURE NO STORY WAS MISSED.
WE DESIGNED THE COVERAGE TO WORK ACROSS MULTIPLE OUTPUTS, THINKING BEYOND A SINGLE VIDEO AND BUILDING A FRAMEWORK THAT COULD SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL STORIES, PANEL DISCUSSIONS, AND A STRONG OVERARCHING FILM.
PRODUCTION
Across two days, we delivered full-scale coverage of the event. A three-camera setup ensured consistent capture across the main environments, while our roaming camera focused on human moments, emotion, and unscripted connection. This balance allowed us to capture both the structure of the experience and the vulnerability that gave it meaning.
Our approach prioritised sensitivity and presence. Many of the conversations were deeply personal, and our role was to ensure contributors felt seen, respected, and represented accurately on screen.
POST-PRODUCTION & ASSETS
All footage was handled end to end by TBV Productions, from capture through to final delivery. In post-production, the material was shaped into a complete suite of assets that included individual story-led reels optimised for social platforms, a flagship film capturing the essence of the event, and panel discussion content tailored for ongoing use and distribution. Every editorial decision was made in service of the story, ensuring clarity, emotional resonance, and cultural integrity throughout the final outputs.
IMPACT
The result was a visual body of work that extended the life of the event, amplified unheard voices, and reinforced trust between the organisation and the communities it serves. By designing with intention and capturing with care, the content resonated naturally, encouraging organic engagement rather than forced reach.
This project demonstrates TBV Productions’ ability to operate at every level of production, from pre-planning and live coverage through to narrative-led post-production, delivering content that is both emotionally powerful and strategically valuable.
