BET: MISSION MOTHERLAND
TRACING FAMILY HISTORIES, EXPLORING IDENTITY AND BELONGING.
TBV Productions partnered with BET on Mission Motherland, a four-part documentary series following four prominent Black British figures as they reconnect with their heritage across Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. Each episode explores identity, ancestry, and belonging, offering a personal perspective on how cultural roots shape individual journeys.
Our role focused on two key production moments. The first was a dedicated shoot for the official teaser, featuring talent including Charlie Mase, Triniboy Joocie, Very Vee Brown, and Elaine Baby. The second was the premiere screening event, attended by AJ Tracey, Alesha Dixon, Jimmy Akingbola, and Clara Amfo.
The objective was to produce high-quality, story-led content that would introduce the series effectively while amplifying its cultural significance through a strong visual rollout.
OUR APPROACH
We approached the project with a clear emphasis on narrative clarity and cultural relevance. For the teaser shoot, the focus was on translating a four-episode, multi-country series into a concise and compelling visual entry point.
Working with the featured teaser talent, we crafted a production style that balanced cinematic quality with authenticity. Each visual was designed to reflect the themes of heritage, identity, and rediscovery, ensuring the teaser felt engaging while staying true to the series’ message.
The screening event required a different approach. Here, the focus shifted to capturing presence, atmosphere, and cultural significance. Rather than producing standard event coverage, we documented the energy of the moment, highlighting interactions, audience reactions, and the importance of the talent in attendance.
Across both shoot days, our team operated with efficiency and adaptability, ensuring we maximised output while maintaining a consistent creative direction aligned with BET’s platform standards.
POST-PRODUCTION
Post-production played a central role in shaping the final output. For the teaser, the edit was driven by pacing and emotional impact. We carefully selected moments that reflected the essence of the series, ensuring clarity while maintaining intrigue.
Sound design and music were used to reinforce the tone, supporting the themes of cultural discovery and personal reflection. Colour grading ensured a cohesive and premium visual finish across all footage.
For the screening content, the edit prioritised energy and immediacy. We developed social-first assets that captured key appearances and standout moments, designed to extend the reach of the premiere beyond the physical event.
By structuring the content across multiple formats, we ensured the project delivered value across both broadcast and digital channels.
IMPACT
The final output positioned Mission Motherland as a culturally significant series, highlighting stories of identity and heritage in a way that resonated with a broad audience.
The teaser created a strong first impression, effectively introducing the concept while generating anticipation. The inclusion of culturally relevant teaser talent helped bridge the gap between the series and its audience, increasing relatability and engagement.
The screening coverage amplified the launch moment, turning the premiere into a shareable cultural touchpoint. This extended the visibility of the series and reinforced its relevance across digital platforms.
WHY TBV PRODUCTIONS

Our campaign-led approach ensures that every piece of content serves a clear purpose, whether it is driving awareness, engagement, or cultural impact. In this project, that meant delivering a cohesive set of assets that supported both the introduction and promotion of the series.
With experience working alongside high-profile talent and culturally driven stories, we understand how to balance authenticity with execution. We do not simply capture content, we shape it into narratives that connect with audiences and deliver lasting impact.
